1) Today the bobeches arrived in the mail, so I could actually light the red tapers in Granny’s candelabra.
1a) I lit them during the cocktail hour, and it’s quite clear I’ll have to put something under them anyway to keep the wax from damaging the sideboard.
2) New artificial Christmas tree arrives later this week, so tonight I started rounding up ornaments from the different places they’ve been squirreled away. I have a feeling others will turn up!
2a) Some of these are childhood friends, others were acquired as an adult, either gifts or purchases. But since I’ve so rarely had a Christmas tree in my own home - why go to all that trouble when spending half of December with the family? - they haven’t gotten a lot of use.
3) I am embracing the novelty of keeping Christmas in my own little home this year. Next year, who knows? I might go plop myself down on the beach someplace. But for this first year, it feels right.
