Independence Day, 2021

July 4, 2021

1) As has become my tradition, this morning I read the Declaration of Independence aloud. I think it gains from being heard as well as read.

1a) You should, too. And you’ll find it online at the National Archives.

2) Before this, however, I had an early breakfast with two friends who a) I didn’t know would be in Provincetown, and b) I haven’t seen in person in over two years. So we rendezvoused at Liz’s Café for a mighty good breakfast and mighty good talk about flea markets, pets, politics, and how the pandemic has changed our daily routines.

2a) We are also approaching the age at which the “organ recital” appears on a meal program, and we each had a piece to play on the program, whether digestive, arthritic, or just achey.

3) It’s gray and sort of bleak in Provincetown today, which I’m sorry to say is having an effect on my motivation. Daddy needs to pump out a column today! But the pages of Everybody Behaves Badly beckon, too . . .
