December 31, 2019 - New Year's Eve 2020

December 31, 2019

1) After spending most of the day baking and washing dishes, I can now prepare to move into my favorite night of the entire year, New Year’s Eve. The sun has set, and the city is now full of cozily lit rooms that I like to imagine are full of people who are happy to be with each other.

1a) So this isn’t my favorite night just because of Sunset Boulevard, but of course that would be part of it.

1b) And here’s when he comes back after she’s tried to kill herself! “Why don’t you just say ‘Thank you’ and go! GO, GO!” “Not until you promise to act like a sensible human being.” “I’ll do it again! I’ll do it again, I’ll do it again.”

2) I have not gotten anywhere near the end of my do list for today - and at this point, I don’t care. I’m going to coast into the evening at my own pace!

2a) Soon I will be dining with my very best friends for something like the 27th year in a row, and I will be bringing a bottle of Veuve-Clicquot Demi-Sec with me, an exquisitely sweet champagne that is best as cold as the Arctic.

3) Tonight I lay a wreath on the grave of 2019 with no regrets. This year has harbored more than its share of pain, but also sunshine to chase the shadows and the start of new opportunities to create and achieve in the coming year. My resolution must be to hold myself accountable to my own goals.

4) THANK YOU, friends, for being part of my 2019 journey. I hope every good thing comes your way in the New Year! *Bursts into tears trying to sing Auld Lang Syne at midnight*
