Kitchen Renovation, Day Twenty-Seven

September 7, 2020

Sweet mercy goodness, if today is day 27, then tomorrow is the end of week four. And I said it would be five weeks . . . and that looks realistic! Thank goodness, too, ‘cause I’ve finally run out of disposable coffee cups . . .

The painters returned this morning at 8 AM, properly masked, to finish up the kitchen. I left for a very long walk in the cemetery about half an hour later, just to be prudent. And it was a beautiful morning; I’m glad I went.

These two photos show the one corner where you can see the cabinetry, woodwork, wall, and ceiling at once. One photo is with the lights on, the other off. The ceiling actually lends a warm tone to the walls there!

With workmen in the house, it really is not easy to concentrate on anything else. When I returned I actually just got back into bed! It was the only thing I felt I could do. But at 12:22 I heard them call me into the kitchen. Imagine my surprise when they told me they were all done! Somehow I had expected them to be there until 4 PM, like on Saturday.

The work looks good, and Moonlight White looks like the right choice after all for the walls and woodwork. One of the pictures below was taken with the lights off, the other on. Under the cabinets the backsplash will go, so they didn’t paint there.

No crew here tomorrow, so the next important event is getting that new box of tile here tomorrow so it can be laid on Wednesday. The tracking link from ye Fydyxe indicates that it’s at their local distribution facility already and should be delivered by 8 PM tomorrow evening.
