Wouldn’t it be nice to see a stained glass window hung here?

Kitchen Renovation, Day Eight

August 19, 2020

This morning, walking home from the cemetery, I got a text from the contractor that someone would be coming in in about 20 minutes to finish the insulation in the pantry before tomorrow’s inspection. And about 11:30, that workman rang the doorbell to let me know he’d finished.

Late in the afternoon I went over to see how things were going. I keep forgetting that I’m going to have recessed lighting! So the holes in the ceiling surprised me for a moment. And I was nonplussed to see that the threshold between the kitchen and parlor had split, but it’s being replaced anyway.

Oops!

Oops!

In the pantry I took measurements of the window. The real production was finding a tape measure. The tape measures (I have more than one) were always in the far right drawer in the kitchen! Not now! Eventually I found a couple on top of the piano.

Holes in the ceiling for recessed lighting. The square hole at center is for the ceiling fan.

Why measure that window? Because I am tired of the old plastic mini-blinds that were over that window, and daydream about installing a stained-glass window there. Nothing ridiculously elaborate, just opalescent milk glass with a crimson border, and some sort of motif at top center. Perhaps the Dymoke coat of arms. It will be beautiful in the late afternoon with the sun coming in!
