The Lie by Felix Vallotton, which I saw in New York last week. Its atmosphere approximates that of my little parlor tonight, except I am honestly alone.

Friday Evening, January 10

January 10, 2020

1) Just starting the cocktail hour in my candlelit parlor with the Eugene Onegin Waltz by Tchaikovsky. If there’s any piece of music that can convey grandeur, cheerfulness, and excitement, this is it. Funny, I remember first hearing this on an LP as a child but not knowing what it was. Thanks for having a lot of good records around, Mom and Dad! It’s paying dividends decades later.

2) Deliberately avoided the news the last couple days, as well as ye Fycebykke. What does it say about a social media platform when you don’t really want to be bothered with it?

3) As usual, I’m in the middle of several books, but The Wild Wyndhams is commanding my attention the most. That said, I’m likely to finish Mr. Know-It-All by John Waters first.
