Saturday Night, June 23

June 23, 2018

1) Such a rarity: a completely wasted day. Well, 90% wasted. I simply could not get motivated to do anything but nap or read. So many things I should have been doing glaring at my balefully from the corners - but nope, I was a total slug. And I do not feel good about it.

2) Well, I was a total slug until just before dinner, when I read about Sarah Huckabee Sanders being asked to leave that restaurant because of her position. A very uncomfortable topic to write about, but it's about etiquette, so I had to force myself outside my comfort zone on that. At least I could dredge up some interesting historical precedents.

2a) Too late I remembered Ralph Blumenthal's excellent book about the Stork Club! Sherman Billingsley was always barring people (for instance, if their checks bounced or if they made jokes about El Morocco), but what I couldn't find was the reference to a speciific actress that he just wouldn't allow in the club. I remember reading in the book that the husband was arguing with the doorman, who kept saying "Im really sorry, you can come in, but your wife can't."

3) Happy National Pink Day!
